Simple Sunnahs to Add to Your Daily Routine

Simple Sunnahs to Add to Your Daily Routine

Living like the Prophet ﷺ doesn’t have to mean major changes overnight. Islam teaches us that small, consistent actions are beloved to Allah. Incorporating sunnahs into your daily life can help bring barakah, peace, and purpose to your day — and it’s something anyone can start, one step at a time.

Whether you're a lifelong Muslim or recently embraced Islam, here are some beautiful and practical sunnahs to add to your daily routine.

☀️ 1. Start Your Day with the Du'a for Waking Up

"Alhamdu lillaahil-lathee 'ahyaanaa ba'da maa 'amaatanaa wa 'ilayhin-nushoor."
"All praise is for Allah who gave us life after having taken it from us and unto Him is the resurrection."

This powerful remembrance sets your intention right from the moment you open your eyes.

🧼 2. Use the Miswak or Brush Your Teeth Before Salah

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“If I had not found it hard for my Ummah, I would have ordered them to use the miswak for every prayer.” (Bukhari)

Even if you don’t use a miswak, brushing your teeth regularly is a sunnah of cleanliness and preparation for worship.

☕ 3. Begin Every Task with 'Bismillah'

Saying “Bismillah” before eating, working, or even opening a door reminds you that your actions are by Allah’s will — and it brings blessings into the ordinary.

🖐 4. Greet Others with Salaam

"Afshu as-salaam baynakum" — “Spread the salaam amongst yourselves.” (Muslim)

A smile and a “Assalamu Alaikum” can strengthen bonds and spread positivity. Make a habit of being the first to greet.

🍽 5. Eat with the Right Hand, and in Moderation

The Prophet ﷺ encouraged eating from what’s directly in front of you, using your right hand, and not overeating. Try saying the du'a before and after meals and encourage your kids to do the same.

🕊 6. Forgive Before You Sleep

Let go of grudges. Before going to sleep, clear your heart by forgiving those who may have wronged you. It’s a sunnah that softens the heart and earns immense reward.

💬 7. Make Dhikr Throughout the Day

Whether you’re cooking, walking, or commuting, saying SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, and Allahu Akbar keeps your heart alive and tongue moist with remembrance.

🌙 Final Thought

Adding sunnahs to your day doesn’t require more hours — just more intention. Start small, stay consistent, and let every step bring you closer to the beautiful example of the Prophet ﷺ.
